  IBO

Our distinguished partner in this mission of developing global citizens is The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), whose accreditation is our primary goal and in-hand business. The procedure of getting affiliated to IBO has already started and by the Grace of Allah we are just one step away from becoming ‘The IB World School’.

A pioneer in international education IBO is a nonprofit, Swiss educational foundation that was established in 1968.The Diploma Program for which it is best known was developed by a group of schools seeking to establish a common curriculum and a university entry credential for geographically mobile students. They believed that an education emphasizing critical thinking and exposure to a variety of points of view would encourage inter cultural understanding and acceptance of others by young people.

Council of Foundation, whose members include regional representatives from governments and authorized schools and others in the field of education, governs the IBO. Its headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland, its curriculum and assessment activities and the business and financial operations are located in Cardiff, United Kingdom (UK) and its research activities are in Bath (UK).

The IBO provides a wide range of services to the schools that are authorized to administer its programs. These include curriculum and assessment development, professional development activities for teachers, and research on issues related to international education.

The IBO offers three programs to schools. The Diploma Program is for students in the final two years of secondary school. The Middle Years Program, adopted in 1994,is for students aged 11 to 16, and the Primary Years Program, adopted in 1997, is for students aged 3 to 12.The IBO in June of 2003 had 1438 authorized schools in 114 countries.

The IBO created “The IB learner profile,” which provides a set of attributes that all IB schools strive to develop in all community members. The learner profile is “a set of ideals that can inspire, motivate and focus the work of schools and teachers, uniting them in a common purpose.” All IB learners strive to be:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

At the moment EPS is at an advanced stage of implementing The Primary Years Program (PYP) for our students. When our Grade 6 students graduate from the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) in the Junior School, they are adept at structuring their own inquiries, examining sources of information for bias, assessing what they have learned and what they still need to learn, and planning their next steps. They respect the viewpoints of others and have a strong sense of the issues facing the world. These students are thoroughly prepared for Grades 7 and 8, in which the IB’s Middle Years Program philosophy has become integral.  From academic year 2009-10, we have also started preparing for Middle Year Program (MYP).
